Erika Pereszlényi (HU): Reflection Mania
Erika Pereszlényi started out with photography in 2010. At first, she mainly took photos at concerts and other events. From 2012 to 2016 she had been the official photographer of the Mika Tivadar Bar. In 2013, she was asked to photograph the ‘Sofa Budapest’ series. This was an international project, within which every two months, two artists (musicians, performers, dancers) were given the opportunity to work together for seven weeks. The results of these collaborations then could be seen and heard by the public at various locations in Budapest. From the photos taken here, a joint exhibition of Erika Pereszlényi and Márton Kovács entitled ‘Sofa Domino’ was opened on September 22, 2013 in the Community & Art Level (MÜSZi) cultural space. Between 2012 and 2015, she also took photos of the ‘JazzaJ’ concert series, some of which were displayed at the JazzaJ Season Closing Concert held on April 29, 2015 in Patyolat, Budapest.
The artist started her own project five years ago, when she got down to photographing Budapest, reflected in puddles. This has become the ‘Reflection Mania’ (Tükröződésmánia) series. The works of the series were exhibited in 2016, at Csili Cultural Center, Budapest. At the same time, a selection of the pictures featured in the Hungarian news website, Index. In September 2016, some of the pieces of ‘Reflection Mania’ were also exhibited in the Hungarian Institute of Paris. Besides photography, Erika Pereszlényi listens to people on public transportation, while walking the streets of Budapest, and writes small scenes from these dialogues, some of which we can listen to during the exhibition.
