Kordz (GE-CH) – Live with Strings
Known by the stage name ‘Kordz’, Alexandre Kordzaia is a young producer, composer and performer with Georgian and Swiss background. He plays the piano, and also composes classical pieces and electronic music. His style could perhaps be best captured in the interflow of carefully balanced oppositions: his elegant, airy sounds gently morph into funk(y) tunes, and from time to time, he pays homage to a private, personal vision of the 80s by creating a melancholic post-soviet ambience. The musician was inspired as much by classical composers such as Maurice Ravel, Stravinsky as he was by Prince, James Brown, Ryuchi Sakamoto and electronic avant-garde pioneers like Bernard Parmeggiani.
In 2016 Kordz proceeded to study composition with Professor Yannis Kyriakides and Peter Adriaansz at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. In his studies he focused mainly on the possibilities of connecting electronic and acoustic instruments that he could incorporate into his own performances and compositions. His idea, amongst others, is to refine the use of electronics in a symphonic orchestra: not as a separate entity, but merely as another instrument. Kordz turns theoretical basics and ideas into practical experience through engaging into a variety of music projects involving orchestras, ensembles and soloists, case-by-case.
On the closing event of the 7th pulzArt, the audience will witness a special project of this sort, as at certain points of the concert, ten local string players will join Kordz on stage, and who knows, this might result in a symphonic concert embed into electronics – or the other way around.
